  • 4- Stroke, 2-Stroke

ATVs come in two different types of engine. 4-stroke engine’s piston goes down and up twice including expansion, compression, power stroke and exhaust during the functioning of the engine. However, in the case of 2-stroke engine the piston goes down and up once. 4-stroke engine comes with advantages like stability, less-noisy, and energy saving. But 4-stroke engine ATVs is complicated in structure and is quite expensive. On the contrary, 2-stroke engine comes in simple structure and with high gas consumption.

  • Manual Gear or Automatic Gear

In manual gear shift, the transmission arte is changes using a clutch and shift gear handle. It has 1-4 or 1-5 gears to control the speed. While in automatic gear control, the engine rotation speed is automatically controlled with the help of adjusting handle. Automatic gear control comes with simple operation and most of the ATVs are automatic gear. Though the manual shift gear makes vehicle save gas but its operation is quite a complicated one.

  • Disc Brake or Drum Brake

Disc brake is also called hydraulic pressure brake. However, drum brake is a traditional brake whose brake patch rubs the wheel in order to stop the ATV. Most of the ATVs have front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

  • Foot Brake and Hand Brake

ATVs differ in brake style including the hand brake or foot brake. We can understand this concept by its literal meaning, hand? Or foot?

  • Displacement

Displacement means the engine’s cylinder capacity measured in cc. Generally, the figure in the motorcycle model’s name means the ATVs displacement. For instance, KM150 means that is 150cc displacement. The larger displacement, the more is the engine power.

If you are looking for something that is quicker, an automatic sport ATV might be the right choice for you. And if you need something in-between, you might want to look for a sport-utility hybrid.
